The independent guide to Barcelona Tourism

The short version

We get commissions for bookings made through our guides. Booking links, and any accommodation options shown on the page, are handled by a booking partner that adds commission tracking automatically. It never costs you more, and it never affects what we recommend.

How this site is funded

We work with Stay22, a booking partner that handles the accommodation and activity links on this site. When you follow one of those links and make a booking, the provider pays us a small commission. The price you pay is the same either way.

Nothing on this site is a paid placement. We are not paid to include a hotel, a restaurant or an attraction, and no partner sees an article before it is published. Where we recommend something, it is because we think it is worth your time.

Links to official ticketing, transport and city sources — Sagrada Família, TMB, Renfe, the Ajuntament de Barcelona — earn us nothing at all, and are there because they are the source that actually sets the number.

What this means for your data

Stay22 runs a script on this site that handles booking links, can show accommodation options of its own, and identifies your device so a booking can be credited to us. It does this using characteristics of your browser and device rather than a cookie, and it stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage (visitor_id_id22 and cache_id22). Because it is not a cookie, this site’s consent banner gates the script itself: decline marketing and Stay22 never loads, and withdrawing consent purges what it stored.

We never see your booking, your travel dates, your name or your payment details. What comes back to us is a count of clicks and, occasionally, the fact that a booking happened. There is more detail in our privacy policy.

You can refuse all of this. Stay22 sits in the Advertising group in the cookie settings, and until that group is allowed the script does not load at all — no rewriting, no identifier, nothing stored. In the EU, the UK and the other countries listed in the privacy policy it stays off until you say yes; in the United States it stays off until you answer the bar. If you allow it and change your mind, the scripts stop and what they stored on your device is cleared, including visitor_id_id22, cache_id22 and the thumbmark_* keys. The links still work, the price is unchanged, and we still earn nothing extra from you either way.
